Europe and the Migration Crisis: the Response of the EU Member States
Book
Description: A peer-reviewed national publication covers the main migration areas in relation to the European Union. Migration is a prominent part of the post-2015 agenda for Europe. The migration crisis has exposed a number of already existing challenges in the European Union and amongst national European policies. Issues such as poverty, instability in home countries, natural disasters and violent conflicts will continue to drive people to seek safety. This means that within the European Union’s vicinity, migration continues as people seek to better livelihood. It is within this basic understanding that this book begins its study of migration and the migration challenges facing Europe. In two distinct parts, the book explores the theoretical and practical challenges within the study of migration in Europe as well as regionally specific responses. This book discuss specific The issue such as the theory of migration, the push and pull factors of the new wave migration, protection of EU borders, the development of EU migration and asylum policy, the security dimension of migration, and how the migration crisis has affected the future of the European Union as a political and economic bloc; concluding with an exploration of migration within European society whether as integration, assimilation or multicultural. The immigration debate will never be an easy one, but it can become less tendentious and more deliberative. In this effort, the book takes a look in its second part, to regionally specific responses by the European member states since 2015.
Impact: This publication should take a turn not only in the context with the theme of migration and migration policy in the academic community, because we think that the given theme is not adequately studied in Slovak conditions. We also suppose that the publication will create a breeding ground not only for students who would like to study migration policy in their works and research, but also for young professionals and researchers who can be inspired and solve themes which have been given minimal or no attention by anybody in the academic community in Slovakia.

How to TEACH: Migration and Migration Policy in the EU
Didactic Material
Description: It is not the aim of this material to provide complex understanding of migration nor to develop an understanding of the migration crises and formulate political opinion. Instead, it provides useful advices, hints and techniques how to communicate the topic with children, youth and students in all forms of education at various levels. For this reason the didactic material is divided into three parts. First part deals with formal education aimed especially at the university level in fields non-specialized in migration studies. However, activities and outlines proposed may be well used also at high schools in related courses such as civic education, introduction to social sciences, etc. The second part is aimed at non-formal learning to enhance personal skills. Activities proposed in this section may be well used during workshops and seminars organized or hosted by NGOs and other actors. Some of them may be used also during formal education as they are more engaging and thus of greater attractiveness for youth. The third part deals with informal learning and gives hints and opinions how to enrich your competences, knowledge, and skills especially at home environment alone or in interaction with others.
Impact: This publication should provide didactic material for all teachers who deals with the issues of migration and migration policy within formal, non-formal and informal education including hints and tips how to make education process more interesting and interactive.
